Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Fox Theatre - Designated by Congress in 2008 as a "Vital American Cultural Ambassador to the World," the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is the largest company of its kind in the country. The group's latest artistic director is Alicia Graf Mack, making her debut this season and tour. New pieces and repertory faves will be presented, though specifics are yet to be announced. The AAADT was founded in 1958 in New York by dancer and choreographer Alvin Ailey. He guided the growing organization until his death in 1989. Among its many enterprises is the ten-city AileyCamp, "a fun-filled six-week summer dance camp where young people ages 11 - 14 learn to dance and explore their creativity." The Atlanta program this year runs from June 4 to July 11. - Kevin C. Madigan
