Candler Concert Series: Vikingur Ólafsson, piano
CRITIC'S PICK:
Thu., Jan. 29
Candler Concert Series: Vikingur Ólafsson, Schwartz Center for Performing Arts - The Icelandic pianist Vikingur Ólafsson makes his Schwartz Center debut playing Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 30 in E Major, op. 109, as well as pieces by Bach and Schubert. Ólafsson, 41, who won a Grammy this year for his interpretation of Bach's Goldberg Variations, is said to have both absolute pitch and a condition called synesthesia, enabling him to imbue certain keys with particular hues. 'Le Monde' recently lauded Ólafsson's "great virtuosity" and "volcanic temperament." - Kevin C. Madigan
From the venue:
“To say this recital . . . was wonderful, even miraculous, is to undersell it . . . Ólafsson managed to find colours that we never knew were there” —Limelight
