Hearts Gone South
CRITIC'S PICK:
Sun. Feb. 15
Heart, Lucinda Williams, Gas South Arena - It's the headliners' Royal Flush Tour, marking 50 years, more or less (including multiple breakups and reformations), since the Wilson sisters scored with their 1975 debut. It's also a decade removed from Heart's last studio album of new material, Beautiful Broken (2016). All of which suggests this'll be a hit-filled show playing to the band's longtime fans who will get what they paid for. Singer Ann, now in her mid-70s, still belts 'em out with husky intensity, Nancy holds her own on guitar and a cluster of backing musicians few know the names of, handle the rest. Kudos go to Heart for inviting the legendary Lucinda Williams along as opener. Her new politically-potent album shows she has lost none of her fire, and even after recovering from a stroke a few years ago, may now be at the top of her game. - Hal Horowitz
