The Deslondes, Sabine McCalla, The EARL - Fresh from welcoming the new year by releasing Holy Cross Blues, their fifth album, on January 1, New Orleans' Deslondes continue to follow a ragged path combining country, folk, blues and folk into a laconic tonic that feels retro, homespun and fresh. The multi-instrumentalist members' approach has been called "loosely tight" an oxymoronic description which nonetheless adequately captures their economical amalgamation of styles and organic musical diversity. Opener McCalla is a poet and folksinger who has worked with the headliners, making a terrific double bill of honest, earthy, Americana. - Hal Horowitz
