Horizon Theatre and Dad's Garage Present Hot Jambalaya
Through Sun., Jun. 21
Critic’s Pick
Hot Jambalaya, Horizon Theatre — This merry whodunit, produced by Dad’s Garage Theatre Company and set in New Orleans, became a surprise hit when it opened here last summer. It now returns to the Horizon stage with much of the original cast intact. A wealthy magnate dies mysteriously and sure enough, it turns out he was murdered. But by whom, and why? His anarchic funeral aboard a decrepit steamboat attracts plenty of possible suspects, followed closely by hapless investigators. Chaos ensues. “What makes this production stand out is its precision beneath the absurdity,” says Co-Director Lisa Adler. “The comedy lands because the stakes are real, and the storytelling is airtight.” — Kevin C. Madigan
