SATCHVAI Band featuring Joe Satriani and Steve Vai
CRITIC'S PICK:
Mon., April 27
SatchVai, Symphony Hall - Ready, set...shred! No one spent much time arriving at the ham-fisted name for this G2 meeting of the furious guitar minds. Regardless, Joe Satriani and his one-time student-made-good Steve Vai lay down the nitro-injected riffs, playing selections from a new album, Dancing. One of its tracks is titled "I Wanna Play My Guitar." It's a simplistic but truthful summation ("I want to turn it up loud" finishes the chorus) of the amps to 11 screaming, fleet-fingered solos the audience is looking for, and will surely get, as these two unwind and bounce off each other's six-string gyrations. If loud, proud, boisterous, overdriven guitar is your groove, you won't find a better show this year. - Hal Horowitz
