The Black Keys: PEACHES 'N KREAM
CRITIC'S PICK:
Mon., April 27
Black Keys, Miles Kane, The Tabernacle - The Nashville-by-way-of-Detroit blues rockers famously ditched a tour of larger sheds, and fired the manager that booked them there, when ticket sales didn't meet expectations. Better for their audience who can now experience the Black Keys in smaller venues where their gritty bluster is best appreciated. The duo's new album Peaches! wasn't available at press time, but its first single, a roaring cover of Earl Hooker's psychedelic blues "You Got to Lose," is a refreshing dip into the band's scuzzier early years and bodes well for this two-night stand. Opener Kane, ex-frontman of The Last Shadow Puppets, released a recent under-appreciated solo album produced by Dan Auerbach with an approach not far from the Keys, albeit with more soulful vocals. - Hal Horowitz
