SPAMALOT: The Tony Award-Winning Best Musical Comedy is Back!
CRITIC'S PICK:
Tue., July 21 - Sun., July 26
Spamalot, Fox Theatre - There is something to be said for musicals that stand the test of time and keep returning in new productions, still sounding looking and sounding fresh. 'Spamalot' is a good example. The script for the Arthurian spoof lets its actors improvise some of the dialogue, reflecting current events to which the audience can relate. The source material (the 1975 movie 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail') was great to begin with and Eric Idle's 2005 stage version, written with John Du Prez, adds songs, dance, and numerous silly effects. Idle told the 'Los Angeles Times' in March that the idea was to create a show that would appeal to those who weren't necessarily Python fans, adding, "People really love this show because it makes you happy, and these are the times when we need it really badly, because somehow, we're being oppressed all the time." - Kevin C. Madigan
