The Pink Stones with Dusty Waters and Teena May
CRITIC'S PICK:
Sat., June 13
The Pink Stones, Dusky Waters, Teena May, The Garden Club at Wild Heaven West End - Frontman/founder Hunter Pinkston has been fronting his Athens-based "cosmic country" outfit for five years. The personnel may change, but the direction stays the same. Their third and most recent album, Thank the Lord...It's the Pink Stones, captures them at their peak. Some bluegrass sneaks in, but this is pure classic country heavily influenced by Gram Parsons' work in the Flying Burrito Brothers and The Byrds. Pinkston's voice has a similar homespun, organic tone, and his songs reverberate with twang, albeit in a more reflective style. The two openers are from New Orleans and will help make this an evening of rootsy Americana. - Hal Horowitz
From the venue:
“We believe in some pretty strict rules,” says Pink Stones frontman Hunter Pinkston. “We also believe in breaking them. This band was built on reimagining tradition, on honoring the old ways while pushing them someplace new.”
