The City in the Forest, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Free Concert in Piedmont Park — Burgeoning conductor Finan Jones will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in this splendid free concert, starting at 7:30 p.m., of works by Beethoven, Vaughan Williams, Mozart, Vivaldi, Haydn, Smetana and Weir. What’s not to like? The setting is Oak Hill in the southwest corner of Piedmont Park and patrons are urged to come early to guarantee a good spot. Bring a picnic, by all means; food trucks will be on site and there will be family-friendly activities as well, but no pets are allowed. (The dog park will remain open, though).

Jones, a young Londoner, has been lauded for his “instinctive musicality and his passion for music of different genres.” Orchestras he has conducted so far include the English Baroque Soloists, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, London Symphony Orchestra String Ensemble and the Royal Northern Sinfonia. In 2024 Jones was appointed Conducting Fellow of the ASO. — Kevin C. Madigan

Pack a picnic and bring your family and friends to Piedmont Park for a program highlighting our City in the Forest. You can enjoy a concert under the stars with music that reflects the outdoor setting – Beethoven's "Pastorale" Symphony, Mozart's A Little Night Music, and "Summer" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons featuring ASO's own Lauren Roth-Gómez on violin.

Program includes music from:

BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 6 "Pastorale"
WEIR: Forest
HAYDN: Symphony No. 82, "The Bear"
MOZART: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music)
VAUGHAN WILLIAMS: Symphony No. 2, "A London Symphony"
VIVALDI: "Summer" from The Four Seasons
     Lauren Roth-Gómez, violin
SMETANA: Die Moldau

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as seating with a good view of the stage is first-come, first-served. Admission is free to the public, and tickets are not required. There will also be food trucks with beverages to complete the picnic experience. Family-friendly activities will be hosted by the ASO Education and Community Engagement Department.
