Mark Hummel & Anson Funderburgh at Blind Willie's

CRITIC’S PICK
Sat., Oct. 17
Anson Funderburgh and Mark Hummel, Blind Willie’s-Back in the mid-9’0s, nationally touring blues and roots artists used to appear at least a few times monthly at this iconic Virginia Highland location. That’s no longer the case, so it’s encouraging to welcome these two blues veterans to town. Both are genre journeymen; Funderburgh as a Texas guitarist whose playing emphasizes class over flash and Hummel’s raw, Little Walter-inspired harp work. They will likely highlight music from Hummel’s new appropriately titled Road Dog album, which features Funderburgh. But with musicians this talented and veteran, you’re sure to get some updated blues classics. The Atlanta blues community will be out in force so arrive early for this special event. — Hal Horowitz
