Black Moth Super Rainbow plays the Masquerade Aug. 17
The Pennsylvania-bred group delivers noise pop characterized by analog instruments and vocoders
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-bred Black Moth Super Rainbow concocts a paranoid blend of electronic and psychedelic pop music, characterized by analog instruments and vocoders. The group’s founding member, singer/songwriter Tom Fec, better known as Tobacco, leads a motley crew of musicians, featuring synth player the Seven Fields of Aphelion, synth player Pony Diver, drummer Iffernaut, and bass player STV SLV. The group’s latest album, 2018’s Panic Blooms (Rad Cult), dives headfirst into BMSR’s trademark hallucinatory textures — 16 songs that morph beyond the point of no return, presenting a mystical and anxiety-inducing sound that challenges the audience to think, feel, and imagine on deeply unsettling levels.
