Fantasy Guys get caught vapin’

Bring your bathing suit and the good stuff when the group plays the ‘On Poppy Island’ album release show at The Secret Spot on Sat., June 18.

Fantasy Guys, the trio of Inyo Galatea (guitar, flute, voice), Maddy Davis (vibraphone, synth, keyboards), and Mitchell “Hibiscus Chad” Hardage (bass, drum loops) have made a habit of musically transforming our landlocked concrete jungle into a tropical paradise with their mix of falsetto driven beach pop.

They crooned a salty breeze through our hair with Surfin’ On A Wave Of Juice, tossed us an instrumental frisbee over a white sand beach on Dreaming of the Sea, and saved the day against un-chill oranges with their “Coral Reefer” video. Now, they mix a perfect day of shooting the ‘hooch with a night of tropical disco paradise on a cruise ship deck with their new album, On Poppy Island. Recorded by Ryan James and Damon Moon, the record drops Sat., June 18 via Skeleton Realm Records and on the band’s website. This brand new single, “Bae Caught Me Vapin,” spools out sunshine riffs and the sweet combo of Galateas’ voice riding high over Davis’ vibes. “And I’m waiting around for your love / And it’s bringing me down,” he sings as the bass keeps heads bopping through Galatea’s lovers lament — the groove occasionally slowed down with oh-so-cool snaps.

Check out the review in this week’s CL Music Issue for a look at the whole album, and get ready for a night of kegs, bonfires, and magic at Fantasy Guys’ record release party this Sat., June 18, at The Secret Spot in EAV (across the street from 529).
