Larkin Poe repurposes 'Kin' for 'Reskinned'
Rebecca and Megan Lovell repurpose 2014's Kin with fresh and hard-hitting rockers proving they're ready for headlining spots on their own bigger stages.
Somewhere in the midst of crafting a sophomore release, Larkin Poe took time off from supporting and backing Elvis Costello on an extensive string of live dates to record some new songs, reduce Kin's cover art to an edgier black and white shot, and jumble up the tracklist for Reskinned (RH Music). The singer/songwriter duo, featuring sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell, kick off this repurposed 2014 album with two fresh and hard-hitting rockers: “Sucker Puncher” and “Trouble in Mind.” Both of the Lovell sisters prove that they're ready for headlining spots on their own bigger stages with the appropriately titled “Blunt.” Slick, bulked-up production underscores a pounding Heart/Cheap Trick radio-ready attack that rides on handclaps and booming beats that are tailor-made for audience stomp alongs. ★★★☆☆
