Some Kind of Hate: Biters tease album track, Skin Jobs reveal Wiener cassette

Biters shows off another album preview, those Skin Jobs guys are Wieners now, and more new tracks by local punk and metal bands.

Biters: “Low Lives in Hi Definition” (from the group's forthcoming LP Restless Hearts on Earache Records)

In March, Atlanta rock ’n’ roll purists Biters inked a deal with U.K.-based Earache Records, and announced plans for its debut album, out July 13. A second album track hit the web recently, titled “Low Lives in Hi Definition.” The new song is a reminder that rather than pretending to be in London circa 1977, on the Sunset Strip a few years later, or hit the summer arena tour scene with Cheap Trick, Biters found a way to blend bits and pieces from its members’ record collections.

Hot Gaze: “5 a.m.”
5 AM by Hot Gaze

Garage-punk trio Hot Gaze recently unveiled a sneak peek of its debut record with “5 a.m.” Considering the lyrics are about restlessly pining over a girl until the crack of dawn, it’s a surprisingly upbeat tune. That’s because guitarist and vocalist Mike Kashani caught the songwriting bug while borrowing a friend’s loop station pedal.

Salts: “Live Burial”
audio-1

While prepping for future releases, those Lovecraft-loving Salts covered an obscure track by '70s Swedish punks Liket Lever. “Levande Begravd,” which translates to “Live Burial,” was pretty damn spooky already before Jacob Reson’s crew added their own dark twist. Though the band’s recorded output to date is limited to a short-run cassette, there’s talk of the newest members of Salts, Mark Naumann, issuing a forthcoming release on Die Slaugherhaus Records.

Skin Jobs: “TV Babies” (from Wiener Records' Bronson cassette)

Skin Jobs’ twin guitar attack, commandeered by longtime collaborators Rick Moore and David Lane, recall a time when there was a thin line between forward-thinking punk and noise rock. Thanks to Wiener Records, a Burger Records offshoot that allows bands to pay for short run cassette releases, four songs recorded last summer have seen the light of day. Soundcloud cut “TV Babies” is just a short preview of the tape, limited to 100 copies and available for free to anyone who pays to see the band Thursday night (May 21) at the Star Bar.

Skin Jobs play a cassette release show with Highriders and Dang Dang Dang. $6. 9 p.m. 437 Moreland Ave. www.starbaratlanta.com

Thoth Nemesis- “Jesus the Christ”

Though the group seems to fly under the radar within Atlanta’s burgeoning metal scene, Thoth Nemesis’ Soundcloud account has been a constant stream of furious blasphemy in recent months. The group’s latest stab at “the majestic ruin of God” is thrash and black metal scorcher “Jesus the Christ.” Few speed metal junkies around town could squeeze this much raspy voiced indignation and lightning-fast guitar work into a two-and-a-half minute song.

Some Kind of Hate is a collection of punk, metal, garage, and hardcore cuts released by bands or labels practicing their craft in and around Atlanta. The previous installment can be read here. Submissions are accepted via email (Robert.a.moore1982@gmail.com).
