Death In June to play the Earl

Brace yourself, Death In June ft. Miro Snejdr (Herr Lounge Corps) is playing the Earl on Tues., Nov. 18.

Since 1981, Death In June has remained the eternal provocateur, pushing the boundaries of many rich and esoteric musical forms: neofolk, early industrial music, noise, and post-punk to name a few. Lead by British-born Australian transplant Douglas Pearce, Death In June's fetish for Third Reich imagery often surpasses some folks' comfort levels. But Douglas P is no Nazi. He is, however, an openly gay history buff, and both of these aspects of his persona are quintessential to the sound and vision he has carved out for Death In June. Still, his repurposing of Nazi motifs is more than enough to stir up a whirlwind of heated debate and the occasional protest at the group's shows — too bad that these elements often draw attention away from Pearce's vast and truly riveting body of work that plays out through such beautiful and labyrinthine albums as Nada!, But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter?, and Rose Clouds of Holocaust.
