In the two years since dream pop/rock quintet Mood Rings released the Sweater Weather Forever EP, the band has carved out a comfy corner of Atlanta's music scene, smoothed out any sharp edges of their earliest material and signed to Mexican Summer, a powerhouse of hazy, ethereal rock. Due out June 25, Mood Rings' debut LP VPI Harmony finds the band diving deeper into the depths of quixotically romantic pop music. Lead single "Pathos y Lagrimas" (previously available as a live demo) meshes with modern shoegaze revivalists like Beach Fossils and Wild Nothing, while hinting at deeper, more complex influences. Instead of simply stopping at moody melodies and textures perfected by the Cure and the Smiths, Mood Rings resemble a modern take on Talk Talk here, ditching staged mystique for curious song structures that look toward a new direction completely. Visions of grandeur aside, this will go great on your next mixtape.
