Janelle Monae brings femme power to Nobel Peace Prize Concert
Atlanta's favorite pixie angel sprinkles dust all over Oslo, Norway
?
In an alternate universe Janelle Monáe is my fairy godmother. There's something heavenly, yet intensely human, about her Dec. 4 performance of "Cold War" at the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo, Norway. The three women she pays homage to at the beginning are this year's Nobel winners: Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee of Libya, and Tawakkul Karman of Yemen.
?
She also performed "Tightrope," from her 2010 album The ArchAndroid, and and the Jackson Five's "I Want You Back." Monáe was joined by Atlanta country pop duo Sugarland, who performed "Stuck Like Glue" and "Tonight."
?
And the closing performance of Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions' classic, "Move On Up," featured Angelique Kidjo, Monáe, Rosario Dawson, Sugarland, Ellie Goulding, Jill Scott, Evanescence, David Gray, the World Youth Choir, and more.
