Poet/promoter Kemi Bennings - the woman behind a host of local soul-centric events - is bringing the city yet another cool happening this Saturday, June 30.
Dubbed 3Women: Voices of Power, this “musical theatrical experience” will “explore ... the voices of three modern-day women to weave a quilt that contributes twenty-first century relevance to stories of challenge, perseverance and triumph” - and will feature performances by singer Julie Dexter, jazz/pop vocalist/pianist Chanda Leigh and Bennings herself. The trio will also be joined by host/model/artist Linda Pearl Fils-Aime and musical director/famed bassist Khari Cabral Simmons, among others.
To find out what all that will look like onstage, I suggest you take your behind over to 3Women and see with your own two.
Julie Dexter, Chanda Leigh, Kemi Bennings. $20-$25. Doors open at 7 p.m. Southwest Arts Center Performance Theater, 915 New Hope Road, SW. 404-613-3220. www.brownpapertickets.com.
