See & Do - Arts: National Black Arts Festival July 18 2007
Mon., July 23
For the NATIONAL BLACK ARTS FESTIVAL, July is showtime. African-American artists in the literary, musical, dance, theatrical and visual-arts worlds take center stage all across Atlanta for an all-too-brief summer month Fri.-Sun., JULY 20-29. Atlanta’s True Colors Theatre Company continues it’s production of Ceremonies in Dark Old Men starring Glynn Turman (highlighted in this week’s Speakeasy) through Thurs., July 26. Elsewhere, Solomon Projects features the multimedia visual-arts experience Returnal. On Thurs., July 26, the Rialto Center for the Arts and the Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association welcome South African pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim (right) for a night of jazz- and gospel-influenced music. These examples are just a fraction of the wealth of cultured talent NBAF makes available to Atlantans during its annual festival and year round. Prices, venues, dates and times vary. 404-730-7315. www.nbaf.org.
