Andy Ditzler revives Desirium Probe
Ditzler will perform James Nares' "Desirium Probe," a piece not seen since 1978 at the Kitchen
Later this week, local artist and curator Andy Ditzler will be reviving a performance piece not seen for thirty some-odd years. James Nares performed "Desirium Probe" just twice, the last time being in 1978 at the storied avant garde NYC venue The Kitchen. In the piece Nares faced a television while wearing headphones and holding a remote control. As he changed channels, Nares physically and audibly interpreted the programming for the seated audience, becoming an improvisatory television receiver.
Ditzler is probably best known in Atlanta for his curatorial work with the long-running Film Love series, but in recent years has place more emphasis on his performance work as a musician and with the John Q collective. By reviving "Desirium Probe," Ditzler seems to be taking a new step in that direction. What exactly will all of this look like? If the new video produced by Proper Medium is any indication, it should be an overwhelming, unpredictable performance.
Andy Ditzler performs "Desirium Probe" on Friday, April 13, continuous performance beginning at 7:00 pm at Elliott Street Pub and on Wednesday, May 23 with continuous performance beginning at 8:00 pm at The Goat Farm. More at Frequent Small Meals.
