An Atlanta DJ within the city's strip club circuit was arrested Fri., Dec. 5 for allegedly having his wife killed. East Point Police confirmed with Creative Loafing that Andre Jason Pugh has been charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, murder, and conspiracy to commit murder over the Nov. 23 slaying of his wife Tiffany Pugh, who's body was found in her East Point home.
Pugh's longtime friend Adrian Harley, also arrested Dec. 5, faces the same charges and is alleged to be Pugh's accomplice.
Professionally known as DJ Awesome, Andre Pugh regularly DJs Saturday nights at Cheshire Bride Road adult entertainment venue Club Onyx. While some local websites are alleging a link between Pugh and the unsolved Jan. 2014 murder of well-known Onyx DJ Fernando "Nando" Barnes, East Point Police are denying the validity of such claims at this time.
"We don't have any connection there," said Major Russell Popham. "This seems to be strictly a domestic violence issue. It is sort of odd, obviously, but there's no connection between Pugh and the murder of Barnes that we have established or that we know of."
Club Onyx also plays a prominent role in the ongoing string of federal wage-and-labor lawsuits filed by adult entertainers, which is the subject of last week's CL cover story.
