Ladies and gentlemen, our 2015 Fiction Contest issue is live online and on stands around town. Some few hundred of you entered into the arena, and three local authors emerged with the top prizes for this year’s competition. Jack Walsh’s hilarious, Medieval Times-inspired “Featherweight” took home first place, second place went to the heartbreaker “how to quit smoking” from Cora Lockhart, and Jeremy Fisher’s narrative-time-hopping “Phenotype” nabbed third place. Big thanks to our guest judges, Anne Corbitt, Suehyla El-Attar, and Nicholas Tecosky. And of course, plenty of love goes out to each and every person that submitted a piece of fiction.

Tonight, we’ll honor this winning trio in a glorious shebang we call the CL/WRITE CLUB Fiction Contest Crush Brawl. What does it all mean? Well, if you missed our first breakdown, here’s an updated agenda: The winners read their winning stories (full time for first place, excerpts from second and third); WRITE CLUB will host some battles (of which CL Operations Editor Ed Hall says he will surely win); and there will be a book sale with proceeds ($2 hardcovers, $1 paperbacks) going to local literary nonprofit the Wren’s Nest. Come on out, give a writer a hug, and sip the Ballast Point (our booze sponsor) slowly.
