Every weekend you see folks head (see: run) outdoors to either the BeltLine or nearest patio to enjoy the sunshine and seek reprieve from the dark winter. Kyle Brooks (aka BLACKCATTIPS) loves the sunshine, too, and his new solo exhibition at Paper Ghost Studio, The Sun is Shiny, clearly reflects that.

"I always feel more positive and alive when the sun comes out," Brooks says. "My work reflects happiness and it's whimsical. I think the shiny sun has a lot to do with that."

Brooks' work fits right in with the aesthetic at Paper Ghost Studio. Bright illustrations often line the walls of the Candler Park spot during their monthly shows, including Brooks' and work from other local artists. Now he brings his famous bear heads and a whole lotta new work to the space on Sat., April 16.

"I have several large pieces on wood and a new exciting set of a dozen watercolors. I am also making a new set of wooden bear heads that will be for sale," Brooks says.

During the week leading up to the show, stop by the gallery to catch Brooks painting and drawing live in preparation for the show. We even hear whispers that he might sing a little bit.

The Sun is Shiny opens on Sat., April 16, at 6 p.m. and is free to the public.
