Paul Gallois goes on the record
Comedian Paul Gallois is Rotknee Presents Records' newest artist
Mondays may be drab in the suburbs, but for city dwellers, no week is complete without throwing back cheap beers and howling over three hours of free comedy at Star Bar. You can catch Gallois on the Little Five Points stage almost every week. A master of casual intensity, Gallois commands the stage with a steely gaze and calm tone. He regales with stories of past jobs, gastric emergencies (setting the record for most pork plates eaten at a BBQ comes with consequences), and drunken miracles. You shouldn’t be falling off your chair over the subject of buying peaches, but Gallois might make you.
Gallois started his career in 2009, making him one of the city’s most recognizable comics now. He got his feet wet back the late Funny Farm comedy club, eons before the Laughing Skull, Improv, or most current indie shows ever set up shop. Now, seven years later, Gallois is ready to go on the record.
?? “I was originally supposed to record last August, but plans fell through and it got pushed back,” Gallois says. “But I think it was actually a blessing in disguise. I’ve gotten better and have changed since then, so I’m really excited to record what I have.”
Gallois will lay down his finest hour of material for a debut album to be recorded at Star Bar Mon., Aug. 15. After officially launching the label with May’s release of Shalewa Sharpe’s Stay Eating Cookies, Rodney Leete is ready to show the world what Gallois has got up his sleeves. Fellow local stand-up gems Austin Chardac, Cherith Fuller, Tom Russell, and David Perdue will warm things up before the man of the hour hits the spotlight.
“As far as recording for Rotknee,” Gallois says. “I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
