Thomas Mullen's Lightning Men is set in 1950s Atlanta as the city grows and changes faster than ever before. When black families, including "Negro Officer" Tommy Smith's sister, transition into one-all-white neighborhoods, officer Denny Rakestraw enlists the KKK to "save" his neighborhood. his efforts spiral out of control, forcing Rake to choose between loyalty to family or the law. On the other side of town, Smith and fellow black officer Lucius Boggs try to put an end to an influx of white lightning and drugs into their territory. Rake, Smith and Boggs find themselves having to make tough choices and battle forces stronger than they anticipated.
