Where to celebrate National Guacamole Day
10 spots to get that good stuff in Atlanta today
Here, in no particular order, we bring you just a few of our fair city’s best spots to get good guac. Tequila optional, but like, it’s Friday so you could at least consider it.
El Bandido Mex Mex Grill
Order the table side guacamole here, and they’ll make it right in front of you in a little stone pot. Portions are heaping and the outdoor patio is perfect for L5P people watching.
Alma Cocina
This stylish Downtown Latin kitchen has killer happy hours ($5 cocktails and $5 apps!), plus a guac and salsa tasting platter featuring a roasted corn varietal and one with watermelon pico, pistachios, and queso cotija. Purists may sneer, but it’s damn delicioso.
Nuevo Laredo Cantina
With 24 hours advance notice, you can buy an actual gallon of guacamole at this homey spot on Chattahoochee Ave. Ask yourself, is there a better way to spend $47.50? Is there? They also have normal-sized portions, served super fresh with a side of grated cheese.
Bell Street Burritos
Now with three locations—Sweet Auburn Curb Market, Buckhead/Midtown, and a brand new spot on Krog Street—this beloved ATL institution serves up a mean guac ‘n’ chips at a delightfully low price: $3 for a small or $5 for a large.
No value assignedHoly Taco
For a restaurant that serves roasted beef tongue and pig tails, this EAV mainstay keeps their guac surprisingly status quo: fresh and chunky with onion, jalapeño, tomato, cilantro, and a hint of lime. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
El Rey Del Taco
This Buford Highway haunt wasn’t voted Best Tacos in Atlanta 2016 for nothing. And their guacamole is divine—simultaneously creamy and chunky with just the right amount of cilantro. The traditional green sauce is also made from avocados, with just a hint of spice.
Bone Garden Cantina
Brought to you by the husband and wife duo behind The Vortex, this hip Westside eatery has a Day of the Dead theme perfect for celebrating this other important holiday. Dip fiends should opt for the Three Amigos: guac, queso, and salsa fresca, with a basket of tortilla chips for $8.75. Share if you must.
The Original El Taco
VaHi’s top tex-mex joint teams their yummy guacamole with an all-you-can-eat salsa bar and creamy queso blanco. Bonus points for presentation: prettily placed radish slices and a picturesque sprinkle of cotija.
Elmyr
For only $5.50, everyone’s favorite smoky L5P dive serves up a massive bowl of the green stuff with a side of salsa and all the salty chips you can eat. Wash it down with the Grizz, a mini Corona topped with a shot of tequila. Because it’s National Guacamole Day, and you deserve this.
Taqueria del Sol
No list of Atlanta guac purveyors would be complete without Eddie Hernandez, whose tried and true tacos, margs, and chip dips have kept lines out the door since 2000, now with three locations in Atlanta, one in Athens and one in Nashville. His guacamole is fresh and creamy with just a hint of spice.
