Quick Bites: City Winery renames its speakeasy, Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken heads for Buckhead, and more

The speakeasy inside Ponce City Market’s City Winery has rebranded as ABV. There is no longer a password necessary inside the cozy cocktail bar adorned with electrical switches from the old Sears, Roebuck and Co. There are new drinks on the menu and “scaled down prices” with a live DJ from 8 p.m. to midnight. Happy hour every day from 5 to 7 p.m. boasts a complimentary piece of pizza with every cocktail purchase.
ICYMI: Gasp. Charlotte-based real estate company Asana Partners recently purchased the retail strip that includes the Majestic Diner, the Plaza Theatre and the Righteous Room. The 2.6-acre property located at the corner of Ponce de Leon and Highland Avenues sold for $1.8 million. The Plaza Theatre, opened since 1939, says not to fret, however. President Michael Furlinger said in a press release, “The sale of the shopping center in no way impacts the operation of the theatre or its long term lease.”
Memphis-based Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is opening a Decatur location this fall. According to Tomorrow’s News Today, hot and spicy chicken will soon be available in a former Blockbuster at the corner of Memorial and Columbia Drives.
New Thai food is coming to Buckhead. Chai Yo (3050 Peachtree Road) replaces J. Christopher’s, which closed earlier this year in Two Buckhead Plaza. The restaurant comes from Dee Dee Niyomkul, founder of Tuk Tuk Thai Food Loft in Brookwood Plaza. The concept will serve traditional and old world Thai recipes and plans a summer opening.
Fox Bros Bar-B-Q and Taqueria del Sol have teamed up again for a week of giving. From March 20 through March 26, sales of the special Hogs for the Cause taco benefit Hogs For the Cause, a pediatric brain cancer research organization. The restaurants’ ongoing partnership in the form of a taco is pulled pork from Fox Bros., Eddie Hernandez’s toasted pepita pesto and spicy southwest slaw wrapped in a flour tortilla. The signature taco will be available at all locations.
