NEWS BRIEF: Small local farm gets big boost from conservation group
A married couple who run a small farm in the East Lake neighborhood of Decatur will be beneficiaries of a new, national agricultural push by the Conservation Fund, a non-profit organization that acquires large tracts of farmland in danger of being developed. It then leases the land to farmers with a guarantee that local institutions such as universities and hospitals will purchase goods from them. The aim of the plan is to balance environmental preservation and economic development. NYTimes.com
The Love is Love Farm has been a perennial Creative Loafing Best of winner for “Best Local Farm.” The Emory School of Law’s Turner Environmental Law Clinic assisted with the grant process.
