The civil rights of convicts in Georgia’s prisons will be the subject of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke announced on Tuesday that “harm to prisoners resulting from prisoner-on-prisoner violence” will be looked into, as well as the sexual abuse by both prisoners and staff of gay, lesbian and transgender inmates.
