NEWS BRIEF: Buckhead businesses refuse to support cityhood movement

Buckhead businesses get smart

Prominent business leaders in Buckhead are taking a stand against plans for the neighborhood’s secession from Atlanta. A letter signed by 30 local executives saying the Georgia General Assembly must oppose the cityhood movement represents a united corporate message and demands exclusion from the area’s commercial district should the move succeed. The signers control $4.7 billion in real estate value and pay around $57 million in annual property taxes to the City of Atlanta. “Simply put, the risk to our companies, employees, residents, and customers is too great to bet our tax dollars on a start-up city with no experience,” the letter states. ajc.com
