NEWS BRIEF: “Alarming” increase in wrong-way accidents on Atlanta roads
Uptick in drunk or high drivers
A recent AAA survey shows over 2,000 wrong-way crashes happened in the U.S. between 2015 and 2018, and many of them occurred on Atlanta roads involving drivers that were drunk or high on drugs. “There is an alarming trend with wrong-way crashes,” said Garrett Townsend of the American Automobile Association. “We found that about six out of 10 of those crashes involved impaired driving.” Mothers Against Drunk Driving has also seen an uptick in the number of drivers in Georgia who get behind the wheel drunk or high. “This is extremely troubling,” said Cynthia Hagain, a MADD victim service specialist. wsbradio.com
