Betting on sports and horse racing, as well as casino gambling, could become a reality in Georgia if a proposed constitutional amendment gains traction in the state House. The House Economic Development and Tourism Committee on Monday voted in favor of an amended version of Senate Resolution 135 and Senate Bill 142, but it must pass both the House and Senate with a two-thirds majority in order to be enacted.

Half of any proceeds from betting in casinos and on horse races would go to health care programs. Another 20 percent would go to economic development in economically distressed areas; 15 percent would bolster pre-kindergarten subsidies and another 15 percent would aid college tuition fees for people under the median income level. fox5atlanta.com
