NEWS BRIEF: ‘Antiquated codes’ could force closure of Cabbagetown eatery patio
Estoria under fire
Owners and patrons of the popular Estoria restaurant in Cabbagetown are fighting a code enforcement mandate that would turn an outside dining area back to its former use as a parking lot. Estoria’s management had converted the space into a patio to accommodate social distancing for diners but ran afoul of an “antiquated” ordinance requiring “establishments to have overzealous parking accommodations per square footing,” says an online petition that has garnered thousands of signatures.
“The landscape of Atlanta is changing,” notes the petition, “and blueprints are calling for spaces that prioritize people over parking and other means of transportation aside from personal vehicles.” urbanize.city
