NEWS BRIEF: Tiny, nearly extinct turtle hatches at Zoo Atlanta
Bog turtle surprise
An endangered bog turtle has hatched at Zoo Atlanta for the first time in decades. The rare species is indigenous to the eastern United States and are the smallest turtles on the continent; adults weigh under four ounces and have a shell the size of a quarter.
The hatchling — whose gender is undisclosed — is temporarily being kept away from the public in the company of two adult females, while its father frolics in his habitat inside the Scaly Slimy Spectacular complex. cbs46.com
