Justice Clarence Thomas has bowed out of teaching his usual constitutional law seminar this fall after widespread fallout from the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade. The Georgia-born judge drew additional ire for suggesting that the court should reconsider rulings on contraception and same-sex marriage. Pro-Trump actions by his wife Virginia have further inflamed critics.
Thomas has taught the class at George Washington University Law School since 2011; GWU Provost Christopher Bracey and Dean Dayna Bowen Matthew told students in an email that Thomas’ views “do not represent” the university’s position, but they stopped short of terminating his contract.
