NEWS BRIEF: Atlanta Eagle makes a comeback in new venue next month
LGBTQ bar rises again
The Atlanta Eagle, a mainstay of the local LGBTQ community for three decades, will be reopening in a new locale in October, according to a Sep. 8 Facebook post by owner Richard Ramey. The Eagle will be making its debut at 1492 Piedmont Road, the current location in Ansley Square of Midtown Moon, which will be closing Sep. 24, he wrote.
The former location on Ponce de Leon Avenue was designated a historic landmark by then-Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in 2020. A police raid on the club in 2009 became a pivotal moment in local LGBTQ history and led to the appointment of community liaisons as well as updated training methods in law enforcement.
