NEWS BRIEF: Thousands sign petition to save Star Bar

Last week, it was reported that Atlanta developer Third & Urban had plans to demolish the Star Bar, A live venue in Atlanta’s Little Five Points, to create a mix-use development. The announcement was quickly met with a tremendous backlash on social media, inspiring a petition against its destruction that currently has over 5,000 signatures.

The petition reads, “With this purchase, they will demolish the Star Community Bar, a unique historical bank building, and build a soulless development in its place like we see happening so often in our city.” In its 30-plus years of existence, Star Bar has housed thousands of live events, including music, theatre, dance, comedy, and drag. One petition signee commented, “We don’t need to change the organic energy of a place that has been the heart of Atlanta for many years. please don’t take away our home. We will not let you ruin l5p without a fight.” change.org
