NEWS BRIEF: Killed in line of duty
Memorial fund created for Georgia K9
Figo, a Georgia K9 member of the Georgia State Patrol, was laid to rest Monday after being shot and killed by a homicide suspect. Troopers were in pursuit of Dexton Bolden, 33, of Jonesboro, who was spotted driving the homicide victim’s car on Friday, when they ended up in a stand-off with Bolden after performing a PIT maneuver to stop him from fleeing, according to the GBI. When Bolden refused to cooperate with officers on the scene, Figo was sent in to the vehicle. That is when the driver shot the K9. A memorial fund in Figo’s name has been set up by the Georgia Police K9 Foundation. After an exchange of gunfire between the driver, troopers, and deputies, Bolden was also killed at the scene, according to reports by WSB-TV.
