Unit 3, Georgia Power's new nuclear reactor, has reached 100 percent energy output
Plant Vogtle's Unit 3 has reached its maximum energy output of 1,100 megawatts, enough to power 500,000 homes and businesses. The expansion project to add two new reactors, Units 3 and 4, was first authorized in 2009, with the initial plan to bring Unit 3 online in 2016 and Unit 4 the year after, but multiple delays and cost overruns have stalled efforts. Unit 3 began producing electricity in April and Unit 4 is expected to be online in December. The project has cost more than double the projected 14 billion. Georgia Power, Oglethorpe Power, MEAG Power and Dalton Utilities are the co-owners of the project. #PlantVogtle #NuclearPower #GeorgiaPower #SouthernNuclear #EnergyRebirth
