Back in 1988, an Atlantan named Michael Edwards rallied a group of friends together with a simple mission: to cook healthy meals for neighbors dying of HIV/AIDS. Thus, Project Open Hand was born. And nearly 30 years later, the nonprofit is going stronger than ever, providing comprehensive nutritional education and an estimated 4,500 meals daily to people living with disabilities and chronic disease.
To help fund their daily outreach, Open Hand hosts Party in the Kitchen, a fundraising event that brings together Atlanta’s top chefs and restaurants for an evening of live entertainment, auctions, cocktails and fantastic nosh. Now in its 14th year, the annual extravaganza puts one hundred percent of its proceeds back into Open Hand’s programming. Expect bites from toques like Gerry Klaskala, Kevin Rathbun, Hilary White, Justin Anthony, Shaun Doty, Eddie Hernandez, Nick Leahy, Fuyuhiko and Lisa Ito, Zeb Stevenson, Todd Ginsberg and many more.
