From the venue:In Oculus, Melissa Basham turns her eye on … eyes. The painter examines the way eyes show up in both manmade and natural objects. Her hyper-realistic oil paintings dangle small objects in black spaces. In one, our eyes are fooled into believing the spots on the back of a moth are their doppelgangers. In another, a baby blue stares back at us, lifeless, but still somehow on the verge of blinking. Eyeballs show up in masks, feathers, and other unexpected places. Attendees will have an opportunity to talk to the artist at the opening reception. Closing reception on Dec. 3.
