Spelman Dance Theatre Presents “Meet Me on the Porch”

Meet Me on the Porch” combines dance, architecture, music, history, technology, and sound engineering to create an immersive experience that honors Atlanta and AUC culture through the themes of love, change, community and gentrification.

The Spelman Dance Theatre in collaboration with the Spelman Department of Music, will premier this original, migratory work on the front porches of three South Gordon Street residents on March 24 and 25 at 3 p.m.

Spelman Dance has teamed up with David James, Ph.D, professor of computer science at George Washington University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science, to create software that generates sound in real time. Each costume features a custom pocket on the arm for the dancer’s smart phone.

On April 21 and 22 at 3 p.m., the Spelman Dance Theater will remount “Meet Me on the Porch” on the front porch of Spelman’s Reynolds Cottage.
