The Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta (ISB) invites people of all backgrounds to join in a Unity
Gathering to remember the New Zealand victims from Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Mosque in Christchurch,
to build our Beloved Community and to create a Brighter Future. We will be gathering at Al-Farooq Masjid
(442 14th St. Atlanta, GA) on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 4:00pm, marking one month since the tragedy. Leaders
from Atlanta’s diverse faith communities will speak at the event.
Yet another senseless act of hatred has shaken our world. While at prayer, 51 people were murdered and
dozens injured in carefully planned terrorist attacks. One month later, we remain in solidarity with Muslims
around the world, and to pray with deepest condolences for the families who have lost loved ones. We are
grateful for the continued outpouring of support from around the world. However, our prayers must lead us
to action, to speak out with fierce determination, to fight hatred and bigotry through word and deed.
ISB, in collaboration with faith and civic organizations is asking our government and community leaders to
loudly and unequivocally denounce hate speech, extremism and bigotry, following the example of Jacinda
Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand. Those elected to represent us must commit to work for a just, more
inclusive, and more welcoming society. As communities of faith, we will always be outspoken advocates for
the rights of everyone to worship in a safe environment, to recognize the need to protect sacred spaces, and
to stop the escalating extremist violence around the world.
The gathering will be open to all who want to stand in solidarity with the Muslim community. Together we
will proclaim that there is no place in our civil society for exploiting and weaponizing hatred. We will honor all
those who lost their lives to hatred by strengthening our alliances, by promoting positive action and by giving
voice to hope and peace.
