From the venue:

The Bakery Atlanta proudly presents “Dirty Laundry,” the inaugural show by Birthday Girls, the artist collective of Magda Dumitrescu and Jackson Markovic on view August 1 to August 15, 2019.

“Dirty Laundry” exists within both the mundane and the magical, as an artifact of life lived. Examples include the weightlessness of the hot pink clothes drying in the sunlight catching your eye on your way to do your errands, the magic of routine and stability, the thrill of being alive and being surrounded by design, the airing out of metaphorical dirty laundry through the southern art of gossip, the large, warm, cloud of nothing that lingers at every porch and tree trunk, not unlike humidity, and the shadows of strangers walking midday burned into bright concrete.

Birthday Girls is the artist collective of Magda Dumitrescu and Jackson Markovic, twins born 3 weeks apart to different families in the city of Atlanta. “Dirty Laundry” is a culmination of their friendship thus far, a body of work that asks the viewer to see both the artists and themselves through soft objects. The end result is a reflection of queerness, friendship, and Atlanta - filtered through the windshield of a Craigslist Honda Civic with no air conditioning.

These images are offered not as an answer, but rather as an eavesdropping into someone else’s perhaps more interesting conversation. At the core of the show is an exchange between best friends who are building a new reality one might call the future. Through these works, a manifestation of love, on a large and small scale, is presented.
