The Classical Architecture Symposium at the Ansley Golf Club kicks off The Villa 100 Years celebration with a continental breakfast and two highly esteemed speakers.
Atlanta Architect Norman Askins, whose studies and 50 years of architectural practice have had a special focus on historic preservation, will bring the 1920s and 30s to life with trends in home design, decorating, fashion, and social life.
Askins will also recognize Sally and Carl Gable, and talk about their restoration of Villa Cornaro near Venice. Palladian Days is the book they wrote about their adventures living in one of Palladio’s most influential villas while restoring it to full splendor.
Barbara Hyde, Curator of the May Patterson Goodrum House and Gardens on West Paces Ferry Road, will talk about its recent restoration in compliance with the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s archaeology and historic preservation standards. Philip Trammell Shutze designed the home in 1929.
