Pulitzer Prize-nominated writer Tommy Tomlinson talks about his lifelong battle with his weight in his critically-acclaimed memoir The Elephant in the Room, the intimate story of his weight-loss. At the age of 50, he was 460 pounds, a size XXXXXXL, and at risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. In an attempt to understand his weight problem and that of others,, Tomlinson set out on a journey across the country to meet other plus-sized people and face his issues head-on.
