From the venue:
Featuring over sixty original paintings and drawings spanning more than a decade, this is Ruth Franklin’s most comprehensive solo exhibition to date. She emigrated to the US in 1994, having earned an art degree at Brighton Art School in the 80s. It was the time of conceptual art and the Young British Artists, neither of which interested Ruth, who many consider to be the epitome of a painter’s painter. She did come into contact with many established working artists at Brighton and one of her classmates, YBA Rachel Whiteread, became the first woman to win the Turner Prize in 1993. Since settling in Georgia, Ruth has continued to work in her studio seven days a week, normally arriving before dawn, and exhibiting in galleries from New York to the Netherlands. Readers of Creative Loafing have twice voted her ‘best established visual artist’ in Atlanta.
