CL Critic Joshua Robinson Recommends:  There’s no better way to kick off your 2023 concert journey than with a local show, and the Not Regular showcase at Eddie’s Attic definitely looks promising. The Atlanta-based indie label was founded by Southern rap legends Nappy Roots, and on January 13, the entire Not Regular roster — including Skinny DeVille, Fish Scales, The Dungeon Family’s Own Backbone, Svnday, Phresh Ali, SAJÉ, and Edgewood Heavy — will be in attendance for a jam-packed show. — JR

The Not Regular Showcase at Eddie’s Attic presented by Phil This Atlanta will feature performances from the label’s featured artists: The Dungeon Family’s Own Backbone, Svnday, Phresh Ali, SAJÔ?, and Edgewood Heavy. Skinny DeVille and Fish Scales of Nappy Roots will also perform as special guests.

Not Regular is an Atlanta-based independent record label founded by the multi-platinum selling, Southern hip-hop trailblazers Nappy Roots. Not Regular was formed to help the next generation of artists earn some of the same opportunities that Nappy Roots has been afforded during their storied 20-year career in the music industry. The label additionally works with well-established artists to ensure strategies align with the ever-changing tastes of music consumption and brand development. Not Regular offers sonic and visual artist development, production services, performance and touring opportunities, and other standard industry solutions such as public relations services, placement, and artist management. Currently, the Not Regular roster includes: Nappy Roots, The Dungeon Family’s Own Backbone, Svnday, Phresh Ali, SAJÔ?, and Edgewood Heavy.

Best known for their hit singles, “Po’ Folks,”? “Awnaw”? and “Good Day, the two-time GRAMMY Award-nominated Nappy Roots were also nominated for the 2003 American Music Award (AMA) for Favorite Band, Duo or Group - Hip-Hop/R&B and the AMA for Favorite New Artist - Hip-Hop/R&B, as well as a Soul Train Award. In 2011, they were nominated for Album of the Year by SEA for “The Pursuit of Nappyness.”?

About Svnday

Born Kiriakis Davis, Svnday moved to Baltimore’s Morningside Heights neighborhood at an early age. He started creating music to deal with the struggles of loss and pain following his father’s incarceration. Svnday’s passion for rap music was inspired by legendary artists, including 2 Pac, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Drake, and Wiz Khalifia.

Svnday emerged on Atlanta’s hip hop scene in association with artists of Quality Control Music. The versatile lyricist and performer has toured with rap superstars Lil Baby and PnB Rock, while performing in the presence of Drake and Future. About Phresh Ali

The Stone Mountain-native first gained popularity working and touring with Atlanta hip hop legend Jermaine Durpri and starred in BET’s “Music Moguls” Lifetime TV’s “The Rap Game.” In addition to musically collaborating with Da Brat, Bun B, Latto and Nappy Roots, Phresh Ali has opened concerts for the likes of Snoop Dogg, TDE, Young Dro, Nappy Roots, and several other notable artists.

About Edgewood Heavy

Bringing together psychedelic rock sounds of the golden past and the new sound of modern soul, Edgewood Heavy is the hottest band in Atlanta. Described as “A mixture of Andre 3000, Prince, and Erykah Badu,” their shows are high energy funk fests synthesizing vast styles of music into one rocking good time. They have taken the Atlanta scene by storm since their birth, and have been seen performing at events such as One Music Festival, SoFar Sounds, Wire and Wood Festival, and more.
