The Bench, A Homeless Love Story

Based on true stories and real people, The Bench, set in urban decay and rubble, explores the emotional heartbreak of five homeless characters and the catastrophic hysteria surrounding AIDS in the late 1980’s. It’s solo theater, where one actor plays five characters, written in dialogue form.

The Bench takes place in NYC in 1987 and the language and subject matter is taken directly from the streets. Real people experiencing homelessness, giving an authentic and bold look at the issues, the slang, the beliefs, the stigmas and the sentiments of the time. How much has changed since then? How much hasn’t?

Written and Performed by Robert Galinsky; Directed by Jay O. Sanders; Produced by Terry Schnuck
